Lieutenant Colonel Raymond Mederos was born in Tampa, Florida on 02 December 1963.  He graduated with a B.S. in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Florida and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the Marine Corps in May 1987.  Upon graduation from the Basic School in October 1987, he reported to NAS Pensacola, Florida for flight training.

In July 1988 Second Lieutenant Mederos was designated a Naval Aviator and assigned to HMT-303 in Camp Pendleton, California for flight training in the UH-1N Huey helicopter. Upon completion of his training, First Lieutenant Mederos was assigned to HML/A-167 at Marine Corps Air Station New River, North Carolina where he served until August 1992. During this tour he deployed with HMM-264 and HMM-266 and participated in Operation PROVIDE COMFORT in Turkey and Northern Iraq.

 In August 1992 Captain Mederos was assigned to 2d Reconnaissance Battalion, 2d Marine Division, Camp Lejeune, NC where he served as the Air Officer, Dive Officer, and Operations Officer. During his tour with 2d Reconnaissance Battalion, Captain Mederos was qualified as a Forward Air Controller and attended the U.S. Army Airborne Course and U. S. Navy Combatant Diver Course. In October of 1993 Lieutenant Colonel Mederos was assigned to Training Air Wing Five at NAS Whiting Field, FL where he served at a TH-57 Flight Instructor.

In September of 1996, Captain Mederos was transferred to Marine Aircraft Group 39, Camp Pendleton, CA where he underwent transition training in the AH-1W Super Cobra. Upon completion of his training he was assigned to HMLA-267 where he served as the Department of Safety and Standardization Officer, Administrative Officer, and Assistant Aircraft Maintenance Officer.

Major Mederos was transferred to Marine Forces Reserve, New Orleans, Louisiana in September 1998 where he served as the G-3 Air Officer, Action Officer, and the Joint Airborne/Air Transportability Training (JA/AT) Coordinator. 

In August 1999, he reported aboard MAG-42 Detachment C, Belle Chasse, Louisiana where he served as the HMLA-773 Det A Aircraft Maintenance Officer, Operations Officer, and Executive Officer.

In July 2003, Lieutenant Colonel Mederos was assigned to HMLA-773, MAG-42 in Marietta, Georgia where he served as the Logistics Officer and Maintenance Officer. In March 2004 he deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM.

In March 2005, Lieutenant Colonel Mederos deployed with HMLA-775 of Camp Pendleton California to support Operation IRAQI FREEDOM.

Lieutenant Colonel Mederos has accumulated more than 5000 hours in Naval aircraft including over 600 combat flight hours. His personal decorations include the Distinguished Flying Cross with V, Air Medal with V and Gold Star, Air Medal with Strike/Flight numeral 13, Navy/Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Navy/Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and the Combat Action Ribbon.

Lieutenant Colonel Mederos is married to Patricia Mederos of Orlando, FL and has three children, Nicholas, Eric, and Rachel. They reside in Roswell, GA
